Tirukarthikai is very special. Millet flour, kneaded, with honey, ghee, jaggery is shaped into small Lamps. Ghee is poured into them and wicks are lighted. Worshiping God in the form of light is an age old custom of the Hindus.
The Hindu New Year, the Full Moon day in April the Visakam in may (Lord Muruga’s birthday), the Rohini in July, the Navarathri, the Skanda Shasti, the six-day fasting culminating in the Sooran Por (the slaying of the Soorapathma by Lord Skanda) and the Thai Poosam are special occasions.
